How to use the directory

Search Tips

You can find information on the directory by typing keywords into the search box, selecting a key interest, or beneficiary, or a location.

You can also search by completing all boxes to narrow your search.

Keyword search

When using the box, just type in what you want to find (this may be a type of activity or service, or an organisation's name) and click on the 'Search' button next to it. This will produce a search results page made up of all matching records.

Groups in your area

By selecting an area and pressing search you will see a list of all matching records, to narrow your search enter keywords or key interests and beneficiaries.

Search by Map

Another way to search by location is to use the Map, available on the left hand menu. To search by map click on the area of the map you would like to search; a list of results for that location will appear to the right. Just click on the result you would like more information on.

Search by Postcode

If you are looking for a group in a certain postcode area you can search by postcode by entering the first 3 digits of the postcode into the ‘Search by postcode’ box and pressing search, once again to narrow your search enter keywords or key interests and beneficiaries.

Key Interest

Once you have clicked on one of these options, and pressed search, you will see a list of all matching records. You can narrow your search by entering keywords, beneficiaries or location into the main search box.

Improving your search results

If the results returned do not meet your requirements, try changing your search terms:

• If you are presented with lots of results, your search terms may have been too vague. Try to be more specific in the terms that you are using, or add extra keywords.
• If you have not got any results, your search terms may have been too specific. Try removing one or two words from your search terms.
• Choose your search words carefully. For example, you may get more matching results searching for 'nursery' than for 'nurseries' (because 'nursery' will be in the organisation title).
