    Group Aims

At Re-engage, we work within local communities to set up regular social gatherings for small groups of people over 75 who live on their own, and are hoping to find new ways to get out and about that suit them at this time of life. We set up volunteer led groups in order to offer befriending for older people through monthly tea parties on a Sunday afternoon. Older guests live on their own and are 75 years old or older. We offer various volunteer roles and volunteers get involved as coordinators for the group, regular or reserve drivers or as hosts, having the group round to their home once or twice a year.

    Group Activities

Volunteers with Re-engage can be involved as little or as much as they like.

Volunteer Drivers collect and accompany the older person to the social gathering once a month. Drivers need a full drivers licence, two references and we undertake a DBS check. A regular driver commits to about three- four hours’ time, one Sunday a month.

Volunteer Hosts have their local Re-engage group to their home once or twice a year. Hosts provide a comfortable, inviting space and provide guests and other volunteers with refreshments and a few light snacks. Group size can range between four to eight people. Hosts must have a downstairs toilet and easy access to your house (e.g. not too many steps to your front door) as well as enough seating for up to eight older people.

Every group also has a volunteer Group Coordinator who plans the monthly meet-ups and ensure that they run smoothly so that the older guests in the group are taken out each month. Group Coordinators are organised and friendly, setting up a schedule of events for the year and liaising with the volunteer hosts and drivers. Group Coordinators will also be in contact with older guests and will usually attend the tea parties, ensuring that they go well and both the older guests and volunteers enjoy themselves.
