We are a friendly, welcoming group walking every Saturday and Wednesday. We offer short, moderate or longer strenuous walks.
Walks take place in the Rotherham area, in areas of South and West Yorkshire, the Peak District and North Nottinghamshire. Members can join over 38,000 walks led across the country by other Ramblers’ groups.
No specialised equipment is needed. Strong footwear and waterproof clothing, just in case!
Members receive an annual Walks Booklet and a monthly walks programme by email, frequent updates on activities and discounts at local walking equipment shops.
You are welcome to try any of our walks or social events. Walks are advertised in the local press and on our website.
Footpaths throughout the area are numerous and the Group is dedicated to ensuring these are maintained. The footpath committee regularly monitor footpath problems in conjunction with RMBC’s Rights of Way Team.
A group of volunteers meet every month, in partnership with RMBC and Rotherham Rambling Club, to undertake practical footpath maintenance work. The group undertakes a range of work – installing/repairing gates and stiles, clearing overgrown paths, replacing way markers and finger posts, litter-picking and any other task needed. Staff from RMBC provide assistance and equipment and the group is covered by Ramblers Insurance. The group meets monthly on a Thursday, but volunteers do not have to attend each month which allows for holidays and other commitments.
If you are interested in volunteering please contact the group.
For all the latest information and a full list of walks please visit our website.
The group looks forward to welcoming all members to the Social Programme on bi-monthly Monday evenings. The current venue for the evenings is The Phoenix Golf Club, Harry Taylor Lounge, Pavilion Lane, Brinsworth, Rotherham, S60 5PA at 7.30 pm.
In addition, in November we have our Annual Lunch following a short Wednesday walk, and in December our Saturday Christmas Ramble is followed by lunch at a pub.
The Group holds bi-monthly committee meetings on Monday evenings and the dates are in the programme. The meetings are open to all members.
If you would like to become involved with any aspect (website expertise, typing/finance expertise, social activity support, footpath warden, planning applications, countryside protection, leading walks) of the group PLEASE come along or contact us to offer your support. You may wish to discuss it on one of the walks with a committee member.
