Rotherham U3A

Group Aims

Are you retired from full time work?
Are you looking for a new interest or hobby, or do you wish to follow up on an already existing interest?
Do you want to meet other people with the same interests?
Are you lonely and in need of friendship?

If you have answered “Yes” to any of these questions then, by providing a range of social, cultural and educational opportunities, Rotherham U3A could be the answer.

Rotherham U3A began in 1994 with only a few interest groups, but has continued to grow steadily over the years. There are now more than 30. We presently have over 400 members and new ones are always welcome. Meetings take place at a variety of venues around the town, and further afield, depending on the needs of groups

Group Activities

Annual membership runs from September to August. New members joining after Christmas or Easter benefit from a pro-rata reduction in fees. A further reduction is given to those who already belong to another U3A, on production of proof of full, current membership of that U3A. The costs of coach hire for trips, entrance fees to properties, the price of meals and other refreshments are extra to the subscription.

Groups meeting in hired halls run for 30 weeks a year, though some groups make weekly collections so that they can hire premises for extra weeks. Groups not needing to hire accommodation, eg. Strollers or Luncheon Club, run throughout the year.

You may attend up to two Rotherham U3A meetings before deciding to join. Contact a group Co-ordinator or the Membership Secretary for more details. Some groups are limited in numbers by the size of the venue or for other reasons. If a group you are interested in is full, please ask the Co-ordinator to put your name on their waiting list sooner rather than later.

Because the ethos of the U3A movement is ‘by the members, for the members’ if you have an interest or skill you would be willing to share, please contact one of the Trustees who would be happy to discuss it with you.

Check our Events page and the calendar at the very bottom of the Groups page on our website for future meetings, and the relevant group pages for reports on past events, then come along to ‘Learn, Laugh and Live’ in our company.
