    Group aims

Community First Yorkshire is an influential, regional body which works with voluntary and community organisations, social enterprises and rural communities across North, South and West Yorkshire. We are an independent charity formed from a merger between Rural Action Yorkshire and the North Yorkshire & York Forum.

    Group activities

Whether you are a large or small group or organisation, we are your first port of call if you need practical support – we can help with everything from governance and funding through to strategic planning and community engagement.  If we cannot help you we will be able to signpost you to someone who can.

    Community Support & Volunteering

In South and West Yorkshire we work alongside other support agencies to ensure groups are referred to sources of advice and support.

    Rural Advocacy

Across North, South and West Yorkshire we provide an important rural advocacy role. We encourage our partners to provide equitable services and facilities for rural communities and individuals, and help them to develop solutions that meet those needs. Our rural advocacy and influencing role is funded by Defra. We are a rural community council; an independent, charitable, and voluntary organisation working across rural areas of North, South and West Yorkshire, to help communities improve the quality of life for all people living and working in rural Yorkshire.

Community First Yorkshire enables and empowers communities to develop the confidence to help themselves, and to ensure their needs are heard by policy makers and service providers – on a local, regional and national scale. Key work includes:

    • Offering support, training, events and resources on everything affecting life in a rural area
    • Assisting with the implementation of Community Led Plans, which identify the strengths and weaknesses of an area and plan the future of community development work.

Community First Yorkshire and the other 37 rural community councils across England form the national ACRE Network (Action with Communities in Rural England).
